AMD made one announcement at Computex 2026 that got less attention than the new processors and graphics cards around it. Buried beneath the 5800X3D Anniversary Edition reveal and the RX 9070 GRE launch was a single slide that quietly reset the competitive landscape for anyone planning a PC build or upgrade in the next two years.

AMD confirmed extended support for Socket AM5 through 2029. 

That’s not a minor housekeeping update. It’s the most important platform decision AMD has made since AM5 launched in 2022, and it directly affects whether you should build on AM5 now, wait, or stick with AM4 a little longer.
