GTA 6 PC — Release Date, System Requirements, and What You Actually Need to Know

GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026. If you’re a PC gamer, that date is not for you.

gta 6 pc requirements release date: Rockstar has confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. No PC version has been announced. No PC release date exists. No official system requirements have been published. Every “GTA 6 PC specs” article you’ve read was built on community estimates and historical inference not Rockstar data.

That’s the honest starting point. Here’s everything else worth knowing.

What’s actually confirmed

GTA 6 is set in Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida, featuring protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos in what Rockstar describes as the biggest, most ambitious entry in the series. Console pre-orders opened June 25, 2026. Digital pre-load begins November 12 one week before launch. Standard edition is $79.99. Ultimate edition at $99.99 adds in-game vehicles, weapons, and cosmetics.

Two delays pushed the game from an original 2025 window to May 2026, then to November 19, 2026. Rockstar’s statement on the final delay cited needing the additional months to “finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect.” That polish argument matters for PC players it suggests Rockstar isn’t rushing the console release, which historically precedes a better-quality PC port when it eventually arrives.

GTA 6 will be fully digital. Rockstar has confirmed no physical disc version, a decision generating significant consumer criticism. For PC players this changes nothing since GTA 5 required the Rockstar Games Launcher anyway.

When the PC version is actually coming

Rockstar’s pattern across the last three major releases tells the story clearly. GTA 4 had a seven-month console-to-PC gap. GTA 5 took eighteen to nineteen months. Red Dead Redemption 2 took thirteen months. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in May 2026 that “Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core,” explicitly confirming the console-first strategy continues.

Applying that pattern to a November 19, 2026 console launch puts the PC version somewhere between late 2027 and early 2028. The thirteen-month RDR2 timeline would point to December 2027. The eighteen-month GTA 5 timeline pushes it to May 2028.

The most credible single estimate is late 2027 roughly a year after console launch, assuming development of the PC port is running in parallel now and Rockstar doesn’t encounter the kind of technical problems that plagued RDR2’s PC launch week. Rockstar may not even announce a PC version until the console release is well established. With GTA 5 they announced the PC version in summer 2014, eleven months after the console launch, then delayed it twice before releasing in April 2015.

Don’t set a reminder for early 2027. Set one for autumn 2027 and manage expectations from there.

Why the PC version is coming even though it hasn’t been announced

The financial logic is overwhelming. GTA 5 sold over a million copies on Steam in its first year on PC, more than eleven years after its original release, and still averages 64,660 monthly Steam players in mid-2026. The PC audience for Rockstar titles is not an afterthought it’s a second major sales wave that generates revenue long after the initial console hype has cooled.

GTA Online is the other factor. The multiplayer ecosystem has sustained GTA 5 commercially for thirteen years. PC players are significant contributors to that economy, spending on Shark Cards and premium content at meaningful volume. Rockstar will not leave that revenue on the table.

PC Gamer noted that Take-Two’s Zelnick said in November 2025 that the industry is “moving towards PC and business is moving towards open rather than closed” and in February 2026 stated he “wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue.” Combine that with thirteen years of historical precedent and the commercial logic PC is coming. It just hasn’t been announced yet.

What hardware Rockstar’s history suggests you’ll need

No official system requirements exist. What follows is honest inference from console hardware and Rockstar’s previous PC ports not confirmed specifications.

PS5 and Xbox Series X are the confirmed target platforms. Both run an AMD Zen 2 CPU at 3.5GHz with 8 cores, an AMD RDNA 2 GPU delivering roughly 10.28 TFLOPS on Series X and 10.3 TFLOPS on PS5, 16GB of unified GDDR6 memory, and a custom NVMe SSD delivering sustained speeds around 5.5 GB/s on PS5. When Rockstar ports to PC, the recommended spec typically targets matching or exceeding the console’s performance tier.

The minimum PC spec for GTA 6 will almost certainly require a fast SSD. Both target consoles use SSD storage as a design requirement the PS5’s I/O architecture is built around it. GTA 6 will almost certainly require SSD installation regardless of what the official minimum states. Plan for 150–250GB of storage requirement based on RDR2’s 150GB footprint and GTA 6’s larger world.

For GPU, community estimates using the console hardware as baseline suggest an RTX 3060 or RX 6700 XT tier as minimum capable of matching the console’s GPU class and an RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT tier as recommended for 1440p at high settings. These are estimates, not confirmed specifications. For 4K at launch with the visual settings GTA 6 will push, current-generation mid-to-high-end GPUs RTX 5070, RX 9070 XT are the more comfortable target.

RAM minimum will likely be 16GB. RDR2’s recommended spec was 16GB and GTA 6 is a larger, denser world. 32GB is the comfortable recommendation for a PC built for GTA 6 in 2028.

CPU will likely require a modern 8-core chip at minimum. Rockstar’s PC ports have historically scaled well with core count. A Ryzen 7 9700X or equivalent Intel Core Ultra 7 chip handles the streaming and simulation workloads GTA 6’s open world demands.

Should you upgrade your PC for GTA 6 now?

No. The PC version is at minimum twelve to eighteen months away. Hardware prices are elevated in July 2026 due to the AI-driven DRAM shortage. DDR5 kits and NVMe SSDs that cost significantly less in 2024 are more expensive now and may return to lower prices by the time GTA 6 PC arrives.

If your current PC handles 2026 games reasonably well, wait. A build assembled in late 2027 for the GTA 6 PC launch will benefit from more stable memory prices, the next generation of GPUs potentially being available or driving down current-gen pricing, and knowledge of the actual system requirements rather than estimates.

If you’re building or upgrading now for other reasons a current gaming PC that’s struggling, a new build for the games available today build around modern components and GTA 6 PC will almost certainly run well on them when it eventually arrives. A Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 32GB DDR5-6000, and an RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT will handle whatever Rockstar ships with room to spare.

The one thing worth checking now is SSD space. If your primary drive has less than 250GB free, adding a second 2TB NVMe drive at current prices is a sensible preparation that pays off immediately for current games while being ready for GTA 6 when it arrives.

The only source worth bookmarking

The Rockstar Games Newswire at rockstargames.com is the only source for official GTA 6 PC information. Every site claiming a specific PC release date or confirmed system requirements before Rockstar publishes them is speculating. Some are doing so transparently and responsibly. Others are not. The distinction matters when you’re deciding whether to buy hardware based on what you read.

When Rockstar announces the PC version, this article will be updated immediately.
